I know it's a little pricey up front, but it's much cheaper than the reverse osmosis in the long run. We are also getting the flouride filters with it! This thing should be 500% better than the brita we're using now. Plus I'll have that peice of mind if something ever happens to the main water supply. It sure will look pretty on the counter too! I'll update you when I've had a chance to test this bad boy out. You can find it here or with a travel water bottle here. I also plan on getting the travel bottle, just for when I'm working and away from home.
For those of you who do not know what I'm talking about, no it's not a type of dog, beagle/yorkie mix. It's a water filtration system and it looks pretty awesome. It's a portable water filtration system that filters out well, basically ALL the bad stuff. You can put rain water, river water or pool water in here. I cannot wait it will be here next week. Not only will we use it daily for our mass consumption of H2O, but it will be great if there's an emergency or Zom-pocalypse.

We do not throw out eggshells at our house. I simply rinse them out, let them dry and usually crush them with my pestle and mortar that my dear sister gifted to me. It's getting its use! Eggshells are chock full of rich calcium that your garden will love.
Bacon grease is like gold around here. I use it in place of anything that calls for shortening. I won't get into why I don't agree with vegetable shortening, but who wouldn't prefer bacon grease? I'll teach you how to save it and how to use it.
So I just stumbled upon Fellowship for Intentional Community. www.ic.org It is a website that has a great directory for community living. Not just crazy hippie communes, but homesteads, farmers looking for people to move on their land and help out. It's a great tool if you've ever thought about living in a group with the same ideals.
Making your own toothpaste is inexpensive and easy to do. I like knowing what ingredients I'm using on my body and how to pronounce them. If you have all these ingredients on hand then this will only take a few minutes to make.
So today I said to the husband, I need to write something on my blog it's been a few days. His response "What have you been doing?" Well let's back track a little, for those of you who do not know me. The more complicated part of my life involves me being a flight attendant and traveling for 3-4 days a a time. I say complicated because it throws a wrench into the life I love which is being at home with my kitties and gardening. Someone asked me at work the other day "How do you find time to grow your own food with this job?" Well I make time and sprinkler systems help. My days off are usually pretty busy, weeding, picking bugs and so on. If it's something you really want to do you will find time for it.
I think I want to feature a small business every now and then. It would be good to spread the word. We should all support small businesses, help each other make a living. Today I'm featuring Cutesy Kats Crafts, one of my friend's businesses. She makes the cutest things from felt toys to hair bows, even custom stuff.
There's nothing quit like fresh homemade bread. Since I've found this recipe a month ago, I have not bought bread from the store. Not only is it delicious, but I don't have to worry about all those additives and preservatives. You will not regret trying this, it's so easy. Read more to find out how you can make it too.
A few days ago I wrote about a wreath I made out of Dog Fennel. Well it has since dried and I added some touches to it. The fennel seemed to dry pretty well. I just had an issue with it crumbling a bit while I was adding the decoration onto it. I purchase some inexpensive fake floral arrangements to add to it. I then tucked them into place until it looked right. This wreath cost me maybe a dollar total. Awesome! We'll see how it holds up on the front door. What do you guys think?
Lemon balm is a lemon scented type of mint. It has been known to reduce stress and anxiety, calm the stomach and promote sleep. Little did I know what I was getting when I purchased this plant. It will now be a staple in my herb garden. Read more to find out the many benefits.
So every year we get this weed growing in our yard. This year I thought I would try making a wreath out of it. Not sure how well it's going to hold up because I've never made a wreath before. It looks pretty awesome though doesn't it?
So today I tried coconut kefir for the first time ever. We purchased it from the little farm store we frequent. It's made by a small company called Ancient Awakenings in Woodstock, Ga. What is kefir you might ask? Read more to find out.
Aloe can be used for all kinds of ailments other than a sunburn. Did you know the the outer skin is a popular laxative ingredient? There is more to this hardy plant then we give credit.
