Most people think of Basil only as a culinary herb. It can be used for so much more than cooking. From aiding in digestion to easing the pain of insect bites, basil is a great addition to your herbal medicine cabinet.

I love drinking tea! I have compiled a list of my favorite teas to share with you. So put the kettle on and grab a cup as we go through this epic list. Ok, Ok, maybe it's not epic, but it was fun to put together.
You all know the feeling, the first sign of being sick. A sore throat! That unbearable pain that wakes you a night because your throat is bone dry. Then comes the coughing and scratchy throat. Well I'm experiencing that right now as I type. My husband had it last week. Now I blame him for spreading this misery to me! Last week I decided to find a remedy to help ease his cough and soothe the sore throat. I must say he was quit pleased with the remedy though I think it was the brandy that had a lot to do with it! I started with a recipe from good old Rosemary Gladstar and tweaked it a bit
I know, technically cinnamon is not an herb. It's tree bark! Did you know that? Did you also know that there are more than one type of cinnamon. If you want to get the most out of cinnamon you must know if you're using true cinnamon.
Did you know raspberry leaves are used to make tea and herbal medicine? The tea is super beneficial especially for the female reproductive system and during pregnancy or if you are trying to get pregnant. Not only do I enjoy eating the delicious berries, the tea is an everyday must for a healthy cycle!
So I wanted to have a few days of testing the Berkey out before reviewing. I can say I'm completely satisfied. It was fairly easy to put together. It is recommended to run a couple gallons through to clear the filters out before drinking the water.
I did that, then came the fun test. The food coloring test. I put red food coloring into the tank, and low and behold it filtered ALL of the color out. Amazing! I love this thing! There was no weird taste, my water actually tastes good and I don't have to worry about fluoride with these add on filters. This looks really nice sitting on my counter as well. Click on the above picture or here for a great deal from Amazon. It comes with a travel bottle. I know $258 is a lot, but it lasts 6,000 gallons!!! I debated on whether this post would be appropriate for some of you. Then I was like "They can handle it." Because who actually likes to talk about periods? Let me tell you a little secret....almost every woman deals with a period at some point in her life! Surprised? I know right? So why do we not discuss something that is natural and common? This is not going to be a post on how women use to, or still worship their monthly cycle. This is about my discovery of something that I feel you should ALL try or at least know about. Menstrual cups! You owe it to yourself to read on even if you don't plan on trying one.
I became more interested in essential oils, as I continuously saw them in many homemade recipes. This kit above is my first main purchase of oils. I had no idea what I was doing while purchasing. Like always, I purchase most things on Amazon and always based on reviews. I 'm glad to say I am very pleased with this purchase. I bought it several years ago and haven't even put a dent in it. I'm going to share with you what I use them for and a few things I haven't tried yet.
It's the time of year when Goldenrod is in full bloom. Those beautiful yellow blooms that remind us of fall. Growing wild in most open, sunny fields and roadsides. Among many of it's qualities it is one of the best herbal treatments for urinary tract disorders.
Goldenrod usually grows wild, but can be cultivated by gathering seeds and planting in your garden. It attracts many beneficial insects into the garden such as ladybugs, lacewings and hoverflies. It can grow 3-7 feet so make you allow it enough space. For those of you who do not know what I'm talking about, no it's not a type of dog, beagle/yorkie mix. It's a water filtration system and it looks pretty awesome. It's a portable water filtration system that filters out well, basically ALL the bad stuff. You can put rain water, river water or pool water in here. I cannot wait it will be here next week. Not only will we use it daily for our mass consumption of H2O, but it will be great if there's an emergency or Zom-pocalypse.
I know it's a little pricey up front, but it's much cheaper than the reverse osmosis in the long run. We are also getting the flouride filters with it! This thing should be 500% better than the brita we're using now. Plus I'll have that peice of mind if something ever happens to the main water supply. It sure will look pretty on the counter too! I'll update you when I've had a chance to test this bad boy out. You can find it here or with a travel water bottle here. I also plan on getting the travel bottle, just for when I'm working and away from home. Making your own toothpaste is inexpensive and easy to do. I like knowing what ingredients I'm using on my body and how to pronounce them. If you have all these ingredients on hand then this will only take a few minutes to make.
Lemon balm is a lemon scented type of mint. It has been known to reduce stress and anxiety, calm the stomach and promote sleep. Little did I know what I was getting when I purchased this plant. It will now be a staple in my herb garden. Read more to find out the many benefits.
So today I tried coconut kefir for the first time ever. We purchased it from the little farm store we frequent. It's made by a small company called Ancient Awakenings in Woodstock, Ga. What is kefir you might ask? Read more to find out.
