Aloe can be used for all kinds of ailments other than a sunburn. Did you know the the outer skin is a popular laxative ingredient? There is more to this hardy plant then we give credit.
Aloe is a very hardy succulent plant. It can survive being neglected (for those of you with a brown thumb). They are not fussy plants, just place in a south facing window and water whenever you remember. I bought a couple last month in hopes of adding aloe to my medicinal collection.
Uses for Aloe:
Aloe Vera gel is like a natural sunscreen. It can block 20-30% of UV rays! It is the best thing for sensitive skin because it's PH matches that of human skin.
The skin of the Aloe leaf can be dried and ground up to be used as a laxative. I would use caution though and research that more before trying. The pulp or gel itself can be ingested for digestive irritation or inflammation.

I suggest getting yourself an Aloe plant. It's nice to have around for the occasional sting or burn. When you cut the leaves, you can either cut really close to the base or just small piece off. The cut will dry over and heal on the plant itself. You can always scrap some of the gel you need and wrap the rest up and store in the refrigerator for several weeks.
