I did that, then came the fun test. The food coloring test. I put red food coloring into the tank, and low and behold it filtered ALL of the color out. Amazing! I love this thing!
There was no weird taste, my water actually tastes good and I don't have to worry about fluoride with these add on filters. This looks really nice sitting on my counter as well. Click on the above picture or here for a great deal from Amazon. It comes with a travel bottle. I know $258 is a lot, but it lasts 6,000 gallons!!!
Product Description
Black Berkey Purification Elements are more powerful than any other gravity filter element currently available. The micro-pores within the cleanable Black Berkey purification elements are so small that pathogenic bacteria are simply not able to pass through them.
Black Berkey purification elements are so powerful, they can remove food coloring from water without removing the beneficial minerals your body needs. Virtually no other filtration element can duplicate this performance.
No need for expensive disposable filters. Black Berkey purification elements are re-cleanable. When the flow rate decreases simply brush the Black Berkey purification elements with a ScotchBrite pad under running water, reinstall and your system is again ready to purify water. Each durable and efficient purification element will last for up to 3,000 gallons (6,000 gallons per set of two) and provide years of efficient water purification. What's more, the unique Black Berkey purification elements are self-sterilizing. Please use our filter calculator to determine how long the Black Berkey filters will last in your system before needing replacement.
The powerful Black Berkey purification elements also remove or reduce pathogenic cysts, parasites, harmful or unwanted chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides, VOCs, detergents, organic solvents, trihalomethanes, cloudiness, silt, sediment, nitrites, heavy metals, foul tastes and odors, yet they leave in the healthful and beneficial minerals that your body needs.

Fluoride
Black Berkey filters do not remove fluoride. Berkey makes a fluoride filter called the PF-2 that can be added on to the Black filters.
PF-2 Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Filters
The PF-2 reduction elements screw onto the bottom of the Black Berkey water purification elements and work in conjunction to adsorb the following unwanted elements found in drinking water.
• Fluoride
• Arsenic V and pre-oxidized Arsenic III
• Other residual heavy metal ions
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
FLUORIDE: Testing for fluoride was based on 20-30ppm of the ion in the influent aqueous solution at a flow rate of no more than 3 gpm (11 lpm) per cubic foot of media. Results of < 1ppm of the fluoride ion in the effluent were typical for the media (>95% reduction). Under optimum conditions, effluent concentrations of less than 50 ppb were readily achieved (>99.75% reduction).
ARSENIC: This product uniquely targets the entire family of arsenic oxide anions as well as the arsenic cations.
REPLACEMENT: Under normal circumstances, a set of 2 fluoride filters should be replaced every 1000 gallons.
The Black Berkey purification element formulation has been tested by State & EPA accredited laboratories to exceed NSF/ANSI Standard 53.
