We do not throw out eggshells at our house. I simply rinse them out, let them dry and usually crush them with my pestle and mortar that my dear sister gifted to me. It's getting its use! Eggshells are chock full of rich calcium that your garden will love.
Uses for eggshells:
- Use the two halves to make little pots for seedlings. You can plant it directly into the ground when it's time for transplanting, I would crack the bottom a little before you put it into the ground.
- Crush up and add to bird food. When it's time for birds to produce eggs, they like to eat shells for the calcium, since they are in turn create more eggs.
- Crush and add to compost or till into soil in garden.
- Add crushed eggshells into holes before planting tomatoes or peppers, it helps prevent blossom end rot.
- Crush and add around base of plants to deter slugs and cutworms. They hate crawling over it's jagged edges.
