You don't need to get all fancy when starting seeds indoors. I've compiled a list of the various pots and containers you can use. Most of these items you are probably throwing out everyday (or recycling if you're able). So read on to see what methods I've used and maybe you'll get some ideas.
This year I decided to try placing peat pellets into a plastic egg carton. These are tiny compact dirt pellets that expand when you get them wet. Because of their size though you cannot keep seedlings in them for too long. Once the root start growing through the bottom, I plant it outside or in a bigger container such as a yogurt cup. If you look at the image on the right, I cut that extra plastic piece off. Now I have a mini green house!
Other items you can use:
Empty berry containers (new for me this year)
Lettuce containers (new for me this year)
Yogurt cups
Toilet paper rolls (I like these because they are tall, providing support for the plant)
Small nursery pots
Water bottles with the top cut off. You can tape it back on, creating a greenhouse.
Milk or juice jugs.
The possibilities are endless. Whichever one(s) you decide to use , just make sure you poke holes in the bottom for drainage. As for the toilet paper rolls, I would fold the bottom up a bit to hold the soil in.

I hope I gave you some ideas. I would love to hear what you use. Starting seeds for the first time? Let me know if you have question.
Happy planting.
